The Go Diego Go! Diego's Halloween DVD features a Halloween Diego episode teaching problem solving skills, Halloween customs, and facts about the South American fruit bat

The Go, Diego, Go! Diego's Halloween DVD will appeal to parents who would like their children to develop learning skills while enjoying Halloween fun. Although three of the Diego episodes collected on this Diego DVD do not have anything to do with Halloween, the Go, Diego, Go! episode Freddie the Fruit Bat Saves Halloween teaches children about the features of this South American animal while introducing typical Halloween customs like dressing up in costumes and passing out treats.

Halloween Diego Episode Freddie the Fruit Bat Saves Halloween

In the Season 3 Halloween Diego episode Freddie the Fruit Bat Saves Halloween, the characters are preparing for a fun Halloween celebration when Linda the llama and the other little llamas bringing treats to the party are trapped by a broken bridge. To save the Halloween party, Diego teams up with Freddie the fruit bat, whose skills and features make him perfectly suited for completing the tasks necessary to help the llamas reach the Halloween festivities safely.

Nickelodeon TV Show Teaching About South American Animals

As in other episodes of the popular Nick Jr. show starring Dora's cousin Diego, in this Halloween Go, Diego, Go! episode preschool viewers learn facts about a South American animal, in this case, Freddie the fruit bat. Over the course of the show, Diego explains that fruit bats only come out at night, defines echolocation, and teaches preschoolers facts about what fruit bats eat, where they live, and how they travel.

To reinforce this knowledge, the plot requires Freddie to use some of his fruit bat features to solve problems with Diego. For example, because fruit bats can see at night, Freddie is the perfect choice to transport Diego through the dark night to the place where the llamas are trapped. Freddie's echolocation skills allow him to determine which path is unblocked and therefore the one that he and Diego should take. The little fruit bat can also fly to catch and pull a rope attached to the bridge to fix it.

As usual, this special Halloween episode of Diego ends with a short quiz to review all of the fruit bat information taught and to test preschool viewers on what they have learned about fruit bats.

Teaching Problem Solving Skills, Logical Reasoning Skills, Auditory Skills

Like other Diego episodes, this Halloween Diego episode also teaches learning skills. Children must develop and use listening skills and auditory skills to identify by sound the animal in trouble at the beginning of the episode and to listen for echoes with Freddie the fruit bat to figure out which path to take. Kids must use problem solving skills, logical reasoning skills, and visual spatial skills to answer questions such as which animal is small enough to fit through a certain hole in a tree, which object is a missing blue hat, and which spooky Halloween objects are pictured on a series of spider webs. And, of course, children learn and use Spanish terms, as in the situation when they must call out in Spanish to Freddie to encourage him to fly to pull the bridge rope.

Preschool active learners can also enjoy kinesthetic learning as this interactive Diego show encourages kids to act out certain actions to help the plot along. Over the course of this Halloween Diego episode, children flap their wings and say eek! like fruit bats, yell at the Bobo monkeys to freeze, and reach out with their hands to catch falling treats.

Preschool Halloween DVD Teaches Halloween Customs

From watching Freddie the Fruit Bat Saves Halloween on this preschool Halloween DVD, preschoolers get introduced to popular Halloween customs like wearing Halloween costumes and the concept of trick-or-treating, as well as to familiar Halloween symbols like jack-o-lanterns, ghosts, and spiders. At the very beginning, Diego asks the audience if they like to dress up in Halloween costumes, and young kids will enjoy seeing all of the familiar Diego characters dressed up in various fun ways. Even Click the camera has put on a princess costume! Parents will appreciate the fact that along with candy treats, healthier snacks like fruits and nut clusters are also featured.

Go, Diego, Go! Diego's Halloween DVD Review

Families interested only in the Diego Halloween episode will want to rent, not buy, this Diego DVD. The other three Go, Diego, Go! episodes included on this video – Diego and Dora Help Baby Monarch Get to the Festival, Alicia Saves the Crocodile, and Manatee's Mermaid Rescue – are all non-holiday related.

Overall, this is a cute educational Halloween video that will help kids develop important learning skills while also enjoying kid-friendly Halloween fun.

Preschoolers may also enjoy other educational preschool Halloween videos that teach kids about Halloween customs and traditions, such as Dora the Explorer: Dora's Halloween and Sesame Street A Magical Halloween Adventure.
